Who we are
We are a panel of eminent special educators and psychologists from School Psychology India who are attuned to a single thought of helping special children and assisting them fulfil their special needs in a holistic manner. Special educators and their role in helping children A special educator is a professional who works with children and adolescents that demand additional support to complete their learning successfully. The special educator often ensures the involvement of parents of children with special needs and helps them manage their learning processes.
The primary duties of a special educator are:
- Informal Functional Assessment (DQ / SQ/ EQ/ AQ)
- Informal Functional Assessment (DQ / SQ/ EQ/ AQ)
- Teaching
They work with children who have a range of mental, emotional, physical and learning disabilities. In general, they work with children having:
- Behavioural issues
- Learning disabilities like dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, etc.
- Visual and speech impairment
- Autism
- ADHD, etc.
Role of psychologists in Special Education
Generally, psychologists help people learn and acquire coping skills to deal with stressful situations, manage chronic illnesses, overcome addictions, and so on. They also undertake assessments and tests to diagnose an individual’s condition or rather give more information about the way the person feels, thinks and behaves.
With reference to special education, psychologists apply the theories of psychology in understanding, prediction, control, explanation, and solve the problems of children with special needs.
School psychologists work closely with special educators to develop IEPs or Individualized Education Plans to monitor student progress. They also facilitate discussions between educators and parents to make sure the needs of the child are clearly understood and fulfilled.
